Physics
144 - Farmingdale State College
Instructor: Dr. L. Makarowitz (Lupton 200A)
Text: "University Physics" Thirteenth Edition by Young and Freedman
Lab Manual: "Experiments in Physics" Second Edition by Nolan and Bigliani
Grading Policy:
Your grade in PHY 144 will consist of 75 % from your performance in the theory portion of the course, and 25 % from your performance in the laboratory.
Grades in the theory portion will be based on four large examinations (each worth 15 percent of the theory, with no exams dropped) and a comprehensive final examination (worth 40 percent of the theory). All exams (including the final exam) are traditional problem-solving exams, in which all work must be shown. Students must work independently on examinations, without the use of formula sheets, texts, notes, or other aids (except for a calculator).
Information concerning the laboratory portion of your grade will be provided on a separate sheet. You will receive a single grade for this four-credit course.
The
last day to withdraw without penalty is on the day the second exam is returned.
PLEASE TURN OFF ALL MOBILE PHONES COMPLETELY BEFORE ENTERING THE CLASSROOM AND LABORATORY. A tentative schedule of topics follows.
